because it raises taxes on the poor and middle class to the tune of over $35 billion over just 5 years - smokers. it will also take a lot of people from private coverage to government dependency, which costs taxpayers even more long-term. you have to understand that the dems' primary goal is to get as many folks dependent on gov't as possible. that's how they get votes and votes = power.

I think the reason he vetoed the bill was because whoever wrote it stuck in some other items that did not pertain to child health insurance. In this case, they should have re-written the bill and tried again. As we have seen with the stimulus fiasco, that is a hard pill to swallow for Congress. They seem to need wasteful spending and pet projects in every bill.

1. The way they wanted to fund the increases. 2. They wanted to expand the program to people making $80,000 a year and to adults up to 25 years old. Everyone needs to remember, the Democrats never wanted SCHIP anyway. Every Democrat in the House, voted against starting the program back in 1997.
