Yes. COB (Coordination of Benefits) could be based on on birthday rule or court documentation. If it is group insurance (through your work) however you may want to check with your HR dept. so see if they allow addition of children to the policy and whether or not it has to be your own child. Also if it is group insurance adding someone generally requires a qualifying major life event to add them prior to the enrollment period. Again, talk to your HR about restriction if there are any. Otherwise if it is a Individual policy (self insured) call you insurance company and find out what their restrictions are, if there are any. Insurance laws and guidelines vary from state to state.

Call the customer service department of the health insurance and ask. I imagine there might be a problem because the insurance company would want proof that the child isn't covered by other insurance.
