How does incest affect a child's health?
If a couple who are related have a child, what problems would that child face during it's life?

depends on the relation. Sometimes there is no ill effect.
2 :
Why? Are you feeling sick?
3 :
mental retardation if the relation to too close, like brother and sister
4 :
i AM a DOCTORS wife! i see a child of close family relations will be LOVED!

well the fact that mommy and daddy are really brother and sister could cause the kid to have mental problems, socail problems, and be freaked out for the rest of his life. family members should not get to together. no matter if it is cousins or what. it can cause alot of problems in my opion, and is very fucking gross!
6 :
not even going in to the retardation the child could have, but whewf the ridicule and life long humiliation...you know some one with that problem.
7 :
Whatever genetic diseases run in the family are DOUBLY likely in the child. These include Muscular dystrophy, Tay-Sachs, sickle cell anemia, certain heart conditions and diabetes, among others. Other birth defects are much more common, too.

i heard it can cause problems when born for the baby, it could make him/her handicapped

There is an increased risk of birth defects among children born to "brother/sister", "father/daughter" or even "uncle/niece" couplings. There are also possible psychological issues arising from the relationship or lack thereof of the parents. Although I'm not a medical professional, I do know that the birth defect issue is one of the reasons why incestual relationships were outlawed.

Depends how close the relation is. Contrary to what most people believe, most situations of incest have a very little chance of causing health problems. It was just used as a scare tactic in the olden days when marrying within the family was too common. However, incest like between brother and sister has a good chance of resulting in mental retardation. No matter what the relation though, the child will probably be subject to humiliation and other social problems. There is a reason its outlawed, it is a very bad idea.

well besides the emotional turmoil inflicted by the knowledge that his parents are related by blood (EWW) he would probably be ostracized by schoolmates and neighbors if anyone found out, and also "inbreeding" is known to lead to genetic abnormalities that would normally not be present (both parents as carriers of same gene/disorder, so that gene is obviously dominant) birth defects, handicaps, etc... bad idea in general.

It depends on the genes and how close the parents are related. But brain problems are what usualy happen
13 :
im thinking most of the time the child will get retardation but my cousin had a kid w/ his 2nd cousin and that kid turned out fine(mean, but physically and mentally fine)

Since gentic variation helps prevent the inheritance of genes (during crossing over) by having a child through incest you may increase your chances of getting chromosomal disorders.
