It's not the physicians you need to worry about, it's the health care plan. As described, the procedure would be considered cosmetic and will probably not be covered by the plan. Call the Plan itself and ask whether the procedure would be covered. If not, there will be no physician that can do the procedure without getting paid cash by you.
2 :
No. Cosmetic surgery like that is NEVER covered by ANY kind of health insurance.

what are major issues pertaining to maternal and child health, both in the US and developing countries

what are major issues pertaining to maternal and child health, both in the US and developing countries?
I know that different countries, and cultures within countries face different problems when it comes to maternal and child health issues. I would like to find out what you think is the most important issue that needs more attention from the government, Non-profits and IGO's. thanks!

There are so many it's hard to know where to begin, and different countries have different issues. In the US, we have a significant gap in health care services for low-income people, women included. Many women without insurance delay prenatal care until the second or third trimester, which has an impact on birth outcomes-- specifically low-birth weight and pre-term birth. In other countries, sanitation is a big issue, especially clean water. It sounds very basic, but clean water is essential for good health, especially during pregnancy and for children. Famine is also a issue-- lack of water leads to famine as well. And, of course, lack of health care--- including the treatment of pre-existing conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, contribute to both the maternal and infant death rates. Access to birth control for child-spacing is also a huge issue. Women who have children too close together compromise there own health, as well as the health of their babies. And since large families are the "norm" in some cultures, there is a lot of pressure to reproduce. Poor pregnancy planning is a culprit in many maternal and fetal deaths. And, the lack of birth control also leads to often unsafe and unsanitary abortions, which can cause damage and infection. Ridiculous policies advocating only "abstinence" and not protection from pregnancy and disease contribute to this as well. It's a vicious cycle, really. Of course, childhood vaccinations should be a priority everywhere, but unfortunately in many countries children are not routinely vaccinated. It's hard to say what the most important issue is for governments, since so many are inter-related, but it basically comes down to the value that society places on women and children. In cultures where women are viewed as lesser citizens, or as property, maternal health suffers, which results in poor birth outcomes. In societies where pressure is placed on women to have many children, which the family cannot afford, the health of the children suffers as well. It's a complicated world issue, that needs multiple solutions from both governments (all of them!) and non-profits, working in partnership with each other. Great, thought provoking question!

If you mean nursing an infant, I believe it to be the best thing for an infant. But if you are smoking or taking drugs of any kind you should think twice about it. The production of mothers milk carries what ever mom takes to the child.

Increasing cigarette tax to fund child health care

Increasing cigarette tax to fund child health care?
President Obama just signed a bill to increase cigarette tax to fund child health care, the first step towards universal health care. Is this fair to those smokers who do not have children, never plan to have them? And why should smokers shoulder the entire burden? If somebody can't afford health care for their kids, STOP HAVING KIDS! agree? disagree? why?

Smoking kills I totally disagree with you
2 :
Good idea and a good change!
3 :
President Obama is a socialist. of course he is going to raise taxes. I don't agree with his policy. On the other hand a lot of smokers are not very thoughtful. Why should I have to have my fresh air spoilt by their smelly and toxic cigarette smoke?
4 :
Hey, I am glad they keep taxing. I have family members that continue to smoke and therefore I don't care.
5 :
The bill is stupid. There is no way the current number of smokers in the country could fund this bill. And the more they raise cigarette taxes, the more smokers will give up their habit. So how does that make sense to anyone with a brain? Does that mean Obama wants people to START smoking in order to fund it? Or is it... as is more likely the case... his way to slip the bill in, because after all who doesn't want to slam cigarette smokers more. But once the bill is passed and obviously not getting the funds it needs, then they can start taxing the rest of us even more. Because have you EVER known the government to stop funding their pet causes once they get a bill passed? No, they just raise taxes.
6 :
A clear case of the majority tyrannizing the minority....I guess smokers need a civil rights leader on a par with MLK to get our rights legalized and stop oppression.
7 :
Chances are that the revenue will be diverted, not all will go where it is supposed to go. In the UK, we have the same fiasco with our car tax, it was supposed to go towards roads etc. All it did was fill the coffers of the government without much visible effects on the roads
8 :
Its funny. My husband and I did the math, and we found that in order for this to work, we need 2 million more smokers. So forget what the Surgeon General says. Get to smoking and support your local children's health care fund. PS Seriously, I totally agree with you.

Can someone recommend inexpensive child indepenent health insurance

Can someone recommend inexpensive child indepenent health insurance?
I've recently became legal guardian of my 17yo sister. My company will not allow me to add my 17yo sister on my insurance. Can someone recommend inexpensive independent child health insurance?

If you are her legal guardian, then the state should help you because she's still considered a minor. So look into getting state aide, I'm sure they can help you. Good luck
2 :
A company can not keep you from adding your dependents onto your health insurance. You do have to wait until they have an open enrollment period.
3 :
Child only policies are fast becoming a thing of the past in response to the health care bill. In my state all companies are discontinuing child only policies and if you don't get one this month you are out of luck. Contact a local agent that works with all of the major companies in your area. The agent can find the best plan for her situation and budget if there are any plans still available

Have you tried a CHIP program? You're about right on the money for the average cost of healthcare. Can you get insurance through your job? If not then try Unicare.com, they have a competing list of insurance based on your preferences such as smaller copay/bigger deductible and so forth.
2 :
That's about right, because that first year, the checkups and shots are really expensive, and add up fast. After she's two, she should be able to find coverage around $200 a month. Rather than shopping directly, though, go to a local agent. They can help you balance coverage with pricing, by taking plans with deductibles.
3 :
$300 is way too expensive unless you want a plan that has no deductible or a very low deductible. You could very easily find an affordable Texas children's health insurance plan for under $200 if you shop around. Just be sure to stick with the large and trustworthy TX companies like BCBS of TX, Aetna, United Healthcare, UniCare, etc. Here is some more information on finding children's health insurance and also some info specifically on finding health insurance in Texas:

Child health benefits for foreighners with temporay work permits in Ontario, Canada

Child health benefits for foreighners with temporay work permits in Ontario, Canada?
I got a postdoctoral fellowship in University of Toronto for two years. The job offer did not mention anything about benefits just about my yearly salary. Even the UT does not pay benefits for my kids, will Ontario government support any health related benefits for my family? I dont have a PR, will my kids get child allowance?

In the phonebook in the Blue Pages, find the 800 number for OHIP (Ontario Hospitalization Insurance Plan), call them and get you application, you should have no trouble and children up to the age of 16 have special benefits, so get them enrolled quickly and a flu shot to, there free.
2 :
Contact your local OHIP office, or go in person. This isnt something that can be answered on here...too many variables that can play in. (eg: depends on what kind of work permit you have and how the wording is on it) Am I eligible for Ontario health insurance? You must have Ontario health insurance to receive health care services for which OHIP is a requirement. You may be eligible for the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) if you are included under one of the following categories: * you are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or landed immigrant, convention refugee, or are registered as an Indian under the Indian Act; * you have submitted an Application for Permanent Residence or an Application for Landing and have been confirmed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada as having satisfied the medical requirements for landing; * you are a foreign worker who holds a valid work permit or employment authorization which names a Canadian employer situated in Ontario and your prospective occupation, and is valid for at least six months; * you are a foreign clergy member who will be providing services to a religious congregation in Ontario for at least six months; * you hold a Temporary Resident Permit or MinisterĂ¢€™s Permit with case type 80 (for adoption only), 86, 87, 88 or 89; * you are the spouse, same sex partner, or dependent child (under 22 years old or 22 years and over if dependent due to a mental or physical disability) of a foreign clergy member or eligible foreign worker who is to be employed in Ontario for a period of at least three consecutive years; * you hold a work permit or employment authorization under the Live-In Caregivers in Canada Program or the Foreign Domestic Movement; * you have been issued a work permit or employment authorization under the Caribbean Commonwealth and Mexican Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program administered by the federal department of Citizenship and Immigration; * and you make your permanent and principal home in Ontario; * and you are in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately following the date you establish residency in Ontario (you cannot be absent for more than 30 days during the first 6 months of residency); * and you are in Ontario for at least 153 days in any 12-month period.
