the doctors to do it at gunpoint? guns are guaranteed to us by our second amendment, we ought to be able to use them to keep our family safe, right? why or why not?

If a child needs surgery in the US, he will get it. No problem. He might not in Canada or the UK.

wow ... are you confused. no it would not be justified. guns are to protect your liberty... not to infringe on someone elses.

If one of your parents needed surgery that socialized health care refused to pay for, would it be justified to ask the doctors at gun point?

I see you watch TV in your spare time. I am sure you don't have much seeing it takes two jobs to afford health care insurance for your family. By the way, at the end of that episode the kid died because the dad was holding the gun on a janitor impersonating a doctor to steal drugs. Hah Hah. Excellent alternate ending huh?

From a moral perspective, I'd say yes, it would be okay to threaten the doctor with a gun, but not to actually shoot him. If you shot him, you'd just have to deal with a dead doctor as well as a dead son. From a legal perspective, you'd be in big trouble for drawing a gun in that situation. From a common sense perspective, it would be stupid to trust a doctor performing surgery at gunpoint. At best his hands will be shaky as hell.

Interesting scenario. You apparently have been stealing material from that Denzil Washington movie. It may come to that but there will be consequences of such an action. Menancing a medical doctor and forcing to work for free is basically a robbery-forced theft of service. The problem with the Second Amendment is that it connect well "regulated" militia to the ownership of arms. Everybody ignores the "regulated" and "militia" part.

You remember when McDonalds gave away those free chicken sandwiches? What happened then? And to answer your question, when the doctor then pulls his own gun and shoots you and your family is that self defense?

As it stands now, if you don't have health care or the money to pay for what you need done, then you don't have the right to it. Your gun idea will just get you three free meals a day.
